Small Group Training in South Keys Ottawa
Human 2.0 runs small group training classes in South Keys, Ottawa — coach-led strength, mobility, and conditioning sessions kept small enough that a coach can actually see and correct what you're doing. Programming is built around injury history, not in spite of it. Your first class is free.
Located in South Keys, our 6,500+ sq ft facility is founded and led by orthopedic surgeon Dr. Chris Raynor, FRCSC. That integration shapes how classes are programmed and progressed, particularly for people training around an old injury or coming out of rehabilitation.

What Small Group Training Actually Is
Small group training sits between one-on-one personal training and a large fitness class. You get programming that is written and progressed by a coach, delivered to a handful of people at once rather than thirty. The cost per session is closer to a class than to private training, but you are still being watched and corrected.
The difference matters most if you have a history. A large class runs one workout and expects everyone to fit it. A small group is small enough that a coach can change your range, your load, or the movement itself on the spot—without stopping the room.
Class Formats at Human 2.0
Rather than running one generic class, we program several formats so people at different starting points can train in the same facility without being forced into the same session.
-
Longevity — our standard group class: general fitness, day-to-day function, and long-term physical resilience
-
Foundations — the Longevity format scaled down for newcomers, older adults, and people returning after injury
-
Stretch & Recovery — a midweek recovery session emphasising flexibility, movement tolerance, and controlled range
-
Instructor's Choice — a Saturday class programmed by whichever of our five coaches is teaching that day
-
Parkour & Calisthenics — bodyweight strength, coordination, and movement skill work
-
Urban Heroes — skill-based strength and conditioning built around practical, self-defence-adjacent physical capability
-
Moms & Babies — a less formal setting for pregnant and new mothers, modified around pregnancy and postpartum needs
Full format breakdowns, weekly times, and booking are on the Human 2.0 class schedule page.
How Our Classes Are Run
-
Small class sizes — kept low enough that a coach can see and correct what you are doing
-
Rehab-aware programming — coaches work alongside the physiotherapists and RMTs in the building, so a class can be adjusted around a current injury
-
Progressive loading — weight, range, or complexity increases across weeks rather than session to session
-
Modifications by default — every movement has a regression and a progression written into the plan before the class starts
-
Full facility access — 6,500+ sq ft of open training floor, free on-site parking, minutes from Highway 417
Who These Classes Suit
-
Adults building strength — who want coaching rather than a room full of machines
-
Rec-league and weekend athletes — maintaining capacity between seasons
-
Desk workers — dealing with stiff hips, shoulders, and backs from prolonged sitting
-
People finishing rehabilitation — who need somewhere structured to keep progressing after physiotherapy ends
-
Newcomers and older adults — who want a slower on-ramp before joining a standard class
-
Anyone who has tried a large gym class — and found the pace or the load wrong for them
Who should be assessed first: if you are currently in pain, recovering from surgery, or managing a condition that limits what you can do, book an assessment before joining a class. Group programming is built for a room, not for your specific knee. That is a short conversation, not a barrier.
An Honest Note on Mobility Work
Improving range of motion and control is worth doing, and it usually makes training more comfortable. But stretching and mobility drills have not been shown to prevent injury, and we are not going to tell you otherwise.
What most reliably protects you is building strength gradually and not raising load faster than your tissue adapts. That is how these classes are programmed.
Class Pricing & Memberships
Your first class is free. No commitment, and it gives a coach a chance to see how you move before you decide on anything.
Drop-in rates, multi-class passes, and unlimited memberships are all available. Small group training generally costs less per session than one-on-one personal training because the coach's time is shared, while still giving you programming and correction.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between small group training and a regular fitness class?
A regular fitness class runs one workout for the whole room. Small group training keeps numbers low enough that a coach can adjust load, range, or movement selection for individuals mid-session, and progresses your programming over weeks rather than delivering a standalone workout each time.
Do I need to be fit before I join a class?
No. Our Foundations format exists specifically for newcomers, older adults, and people returning to training after injury, with slower pacing and more accessible progressions. Standard classes also carry regressions and progressions, so beginners and experienced lifters train in the same room at appropriate loads.
Can I do group training while I am in physiotherapy?
Often yes, and it is frequently the right move. Because our coaches and physiotherapists work in the same facility, class programming can be adjusted around what your physiotherapist is working on. Speak to your therapist first so everyone is working from the same plan.
How big are the classes?
Classes are kept deliberately small so every participant can be seen and corrected. Typically, capped at 10-15 participants to optimize coach interaction.
Do you offer group personal training?
Yes. Small group personal training is available for people who want a coach's attention alongside a training partner or two, at a lower cost than individual sessions. Contact us to arrange.
What time are your classes?
Classes run mornings, mid-morning, and early evening on weekdays, with a Saturday morning session. Exact weekly times are listed on the Human 2.0 class schedule page.
