Human 2.0 Exercise Therapy
Exercise-based therapy in Ottawa for strength, mobility, confidence, physical capacity, and long-term movement quality.
Who this is for
Each Human 2.0 service is built around active, practical care that connects assessment, education, and movement.
For people dealing with pain, stiffness, weakness, recurring symptoms, or movement restrictions that are affecting daily life or training.
For active people who want to return to sport, training, work, or meaningful activity with a stronger, more durable body.
For people who want to understand what is happening, what to do next, and how to keep progressing beyond temporary symptom relief.
Clinical explanation
Exercise is medicine — and at Human 2.0, we take that literally. Our exercise therapy program in Ottawa is a clinically supervised, evidence-based approach to rehabilitation and long-term health that goes far beyond what you'd find in a standard gym or fitness class.
Located in South Keys, Human 2.0 is Ottawa's only rehabilitation facility owned and operated by an orthopedic surgeon. That means every exercise therapy program is designed within a medical framework, informed by your diagnosis, your surgical history, and your individual movement profile — not a generic template.
Exercise therapy is the therapeutic use of movement and physical activity to treat injury, manage chronic conditions, restore function, and prevent future problems. It is a structured, progressive, and clinically guided process — distinct from general fitness training in both intent and execution.
Personal training is designed for generally healthy individuals looking to improve fitness, body composition, or athletic performance. Exercise therapy, by contrast, is a clinical intervention:
Delivered by regulated health professionals (kinesiologists, physiotherapists) with clinical training in pathology and rehabilitation
Prescribed based on your diagnosis — your program accounts for surgical repairs, tissue healing timelines, pain science, and movement dysfunction
Integrated with your medical team — at Human 2.0, your exercise therapist collaborates directly with Dr. Raynor and your physiotherapist
Outcome-driven and reassessed regularly — progress is measured against clinical benchmarks, not just subjective feel
In short: personal training helps healthy people get fitter. Exercise therapy helps injured, post-surgical, or chronically unwell people get better — and then get stronger.
Our South Keys Ottawa exercise therapy program serves clients at every stage of recovery and health:
Chronic pain — Persistent pain from conditions like low back pain, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, or tendinopathy responds exceptionally well to structured therapeutic exercise. We build programs that reduce pain, improve function, and break the cycle of inactivity that often makes chronic pain worse.
Post-surgical rehabilitation — After orthopedic surgery — ACL reconstruction, rotator cuff repair, hip arthroscopy, knee or hip replacement — exercise therapy is the primary driver of your recovery. Our programs follow Dr. Raynor's post-operative protocols to ensure safe, progressive return to full function.
Injury recovery — Whether you're dealing with a muscle strain, ligament sprain, stress fracture, or overuse injury, therapeutic exercise accelerates healing, restores strength, and reduces the risk of re-injury. We bridge the gap between acute physiotherapy and independent activity.
Long-term fitness and active aging — For clients who want to stay active, independent, and pain-free as they age, exercise therapy provides a medically sound foundation. We work with Ottawa adults at every fitness level to build sustainable habits and functional strength that lasts.

Is exercise therapy the same as physiotherapy?
They are complementary but distinct. Physiotherapy focuses on diagnosing and treating injury and dysfunction — often including manual therapy, modalities, and early-stage rehabilitation. Exercise therapy uses progressive, supervised movement to rebuild strength, restore function, and prevent recurrence. At Human 2.0, many Ottawa clients receive both simultaneously for the best outcomes.
Do I need a referral to start exercise therapy?
No referral is required. You can book directly through our JaneApp page. If you're a patient of Dr. Raynor's, he may refer you to our exercise therapy team as part of your post-surgical plan — in which case your program will be built directly from his post-operative protocol.
Is exercise therapy covered by insurance?
When delivered by a registered kinesiologist (R.Kin), exercise therapy is covered by many extended health insurance plans in Ontario. We provide detailed receipts for submission to your insurer. Ask our South Keys Ottawa reception team about direct billing options for your specific plan.
How long will I need exercise therapy?
It depends on your starting point and goals. Post-surgical clients typically engage for 3–6 months. Clients managing chronic conditions or working toward long-term fitness may continue on an ongoing basis. Your therapist will outline a realistic timeline at your initial assessment and adjust as you progress.
Can I do exercise therapy if I'm currently in pain?
Yes — in fact, therapeutic exercise is one of the most effective interventions for chronic and sub-acute pain. Your program will be carefully calibrated to your current pain levels and tissue tolerance, with load and intensity progressed gradually. Our team is experienced in working with clients who have been in pain for months or years.
Take the first step toward moving better, recovering stronger, and building a body that lasts. Our South Keys Ottawa clinic combines clinical expertise with a world-class facility — everything you need to get back to the life you want.
